    Join Us June 25-27, 2018

    Dear Federal, State, and Local Affiliates of the IAFF 3rd District, 

    IAFF District 3 Vice President and NE Conference Chairman Jay Colbert announces the following: 

    You are hereby notified that, pursuant to the Constitution of the New England Conference of Fire Fighters, the 35th Biennial New England Conference will be held at the Foxwoods Fox Tower Hotel in Mashantucket, CT on June 25, 26, & 27 of 2018. The Mashantucket Pequot Fire Fighters Local 4746 and the Uniformed Professional Fire Fighters Association of Connecticut will be hosting the Conference and are suggesting arrival for Monday, June 25. The NECFF is the caucus of all the IAFF Locals in the 3rd District, and gives us all an opportunity to meet collectively in New England ahead of the IAFF Convention and hear from the General President and General Secretary-Treasurer who have been invited to speak. IAFF Peer Support training and IAFF PEP Classes will be offered.  This will be our opportunity to hear and discuss Convention Resolutions.

    This year we will have a special presentation from the Fire Chief  Greg Cassell and Local 1908  President Steve Thompson from Clark County Nevada, who will detail the response to the October 1, 2017 mass shooting.  This is valuable presentation is not to be missed.

    Additionally, you will receive updates from each of the State Presidents detailing how these difficult economic times are leading to unprecedented attacks on our membership, and how each state is dealing with these issues.  

    Resolutions will be accepted until Conference registration begins, but the business of the Conference will be greatly expedited if Resolutions are submitted to the Secretary-Treasurer prior, submit Resolutions to the NECFF, 43 Centre St. Concord, NH 03301.

    KSCFF members The location for the upcoming meeting in Junction City will be at 3806 Rucker Rd.  Exit 295 I-70 north on US 77 for 3.4 miles turn left at Rucker Rd and go west on Rucker for 1.5 miles, driveway located on North side of Rd.  Signs will be located at the entrance of the drive.   Lunch will be provided starting at 12:00 and the meeting starting around 1:00.

    The IAFF Local 244 County Chapter Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) has been tentatively agreed upon (TA'd). The ratification vote will take place on Monday, November 2, 2020 from 7:00am -7:00pm in accordance with Article II, Section 2 and Article XI, Sections 2, 3 & 6 of the IAFF Local 244 Constitution & By-Laws.

    Good Afternoon,  At 11:30 AM this morning, Denver Mayor Hancock instituted Level 3 Safer at Home Restrictions due to the recent spike in COVID-19 cases. Within the Department, we have had a significant spike with our members confirmed or quarantined due to COVID-19 as well.

    Local 21 regrets to announce the passing of retired Firefighter Burt Moes. Burt started his career with the Saint Paul Fire Department in 1957 and retired in the early 1980s.     Local 21 regrets to announce the passing of retired Fire Captain Glover Dohman. Glover started his career with the Saint Paul Fire Department in 1954 and retired in the early 1980s. Exact dates of service have been requested and will be updated when received from Fire Headquarters.
    Change Your Clocks, Change Your Batteries

    In half of reported home fires in which smoke alarms were present but did not operate, the batteries had been removed or the alarm was disconnected due to dead battery alerts or nuisance alarms. Working smoke alarms decrease the risk of dying in reported home fires by nearly half according to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).

    KSCFF Officers and Membership President Wing has called for a Board meeting to be held on November 5th in Junction City.  President Wing has also made the meeting open to all members who would like to attend.  The location of the meeting in JC is to be determined but should be done in the next couple of days.  Meeting is scheduled to start around 1:00 pm.

    W. Ponds Circle Structure Fire

    On Thursday October 15, 2020 at 10:30 a.m., Local Members responded to a fire inside a condominium on W. Ponds Circle in Unincorporated Arapahoe County. Initial reports stated a fire started in the bathroom of the home and may have extended into the attic space. When members from Engine 13 arrived on scene, they could not see any active fire from the outside of the condo.
    Hampden Ave. Car into a Building

    At 11:54 p.m. on Saturday October 10, 2020, Local members responded to a report of a car crash into a building on E. Hampden Ave. in Cherry Hills Village. When members arrived on scene, they found a car had gone off the roadway and crashed into a Caribou Coffee store. Crews extricated the driver inside the vehicle and took that person to the hospital in critical condition.
    U-Haul Forklift Accident

    At 7:46 p.m. on Friday, October 9, 2020, Local members responded to an entrapment at the U-Haul facility located at 1750 E. County Line Road in Douglas County. Upon arrival, members found a forklift on its side with the driver trapped underneath it. Paramedics immediately began treating the injured person while lifting and stabilizing equipment was put in place.

    A marathon of hose. 26.2 miles. 138,435 feet. Stretched by the crew of Engine 33 in a self-challenge to be better at their job. What started as a funny idea in January became a reality by October. They did it. And they’re still going. 10 months of walking, crawling and running with hose during a variety of basic, advanced and unheard-of scenarios.
    DAD's Landfill Brush Fire

    At 12:06 p.m. on Monday, October 5, 2020, Local members responded to a brush fire at the Denver Arapahoe Disposal Site landfill, located at 3500 S. Gun Club Road. An electrical problem on a power pole sparked a small grass fire that quickly grew to over an acre. Workers at the facility used fire extinguishers and heavy equipment including water tenders and tractors to fight the fire.

    At 4:40 p.m. on Monday, September 28, 2020, Local members responded to 8109 Blakeland Drive to assist Douglas County Sheriff Deputies with investigating a suspicious package. The building was evacuated, a unified command was established, Hazardous Materials Technicians went through a medical status check and geared up to go inside.
